But Bhognath ji said this to me: 'Nephew, I've committed a grave sin. By fighting Indira ji, I ruined the country.' I couldn't understand what he was saying. He said the Jan Sangh people — the RSS people — who used to be afraid to even take their own name, who used to hide it, took root. 'My life is nearly over. Nephew, what will happen to you?' I couldn't understand it then. And when I came back to India, V.P. Singh had become Prime Minister. With V.P. Singh, the Janata Party — meaning the Jan Sangh, the Left, all of them — came together. The result was that the RSS got recognition, and the RSS, creeping in quietly step by step, became the ruler of the hour. These small parties that were formed weakened the Congress, but they got the RSS to a place it couldn't have reached in the next two hundred years otherwise.
